Handmade quilt by women in San Pedro Sula, Honduras

Description

The Restoration is in a very beautiful design. The Maker of this quilt is our sweet Maribel.

Maribel is a 33-year-old mother living in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. She is the devoted mom of four beautiful children—with a fifth on the way, due this August. Like many women in her community, Maribel's pregnancy wasn't something she planned. In a region where access to reproductive healthcare is extremely limited due to both political and financial barriers, options are few. But at One Common Thread, we choose to celebrate with these women. We honor the life of this new child and the strength of a mother who is doing everything she can with what she has.

Maribel has a 6th grade education and has always poured her heart into raising her children and caring for her home. Right now, her husband—who she is in a common law marriage with—is unemployed, so much of the burden falls on her shoulders. But despite the challenges, Maribel’s spirit remains hopeful. Through the support of generous donations to One Common Thread, she was able to reroof her home—an incredible improvement that keeps her family safe and dry in the tropical rains. It brought her true happiness.

Her goal is simple: to be happy with her family. And we believe that goal is beautiful and worthy.

This vibrant throw quilt was hand-sewn by Maribel with joy and creativity. It features fabrics that radiate her hopeful heart, paired with a luxuriously soft lavender velvet backing. It’s more than just a quilt—it’s a piece of her story, stitched with resilience, love, and purpose. We can see it lighting up any room in your home and spreading the warmth of her journey wherever it goes.
