This amazing collegiate quilt celebrates Florida State and was made by our Maker Johana.
Johana's determination to create a better future for herself and her family is commendable. Despite having only a sixth-grade education, she is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work for One Common Thread and earn a steady income. This income helps her meet her family's basic needs while also allowing her to work toward goals that once felt out of reach.
Johana's responsibilities have grown significantly. In addition to caring for her 7-year-old daughter, she has taken in her two younger half-siblings, meaning she now has three children living under her roof. She also helps care for her elderly father. Even with so many people depending on her, Johana continues to work hard and look for ways to improve life for her entire family.
One of Johana's greatest aspirations is to return to school and complete her basic education. Her desire to continue learning reflects her commitment to personal growth and creating greater opportunities for herself. By earning her high school certificate, she hopes to open doors to a more secure future and show the children in her care what is possible through determination and hard work.
Johana and her family have also faced unexpected challenges. A recent motorcycle accident left her common-law husband injured, creating additional hardship for their household. Despite his injury, he continues to help Johana with her sewing whenever he can. Their teamwork and support for one another demonstrate the resilience of this family and their determination to keep moving forward despite the challenges they face.
