The number one item needed by almost ALL of our Makers is corrugated tin. This is what consists of a weather proof roof in the slums of San Pedro Sula. To live under a tin roof is a luxury because so many live with just tarps keeping the dry at night. Tin roofs would be a huge improvement for many of them. For those who have tin roofs already there is almost always a need for replacing old pieces and repurposing those old corroded pieces into sides of the outside of their homes. Unfortunately, the tin does corrode and rust and holes form because of the tropical weather of Honduras. So when I asked our Makers what is the number one item you need that you just can not afford it is almost always corrugated tin for their roofs. Everyone wants to sleep in dry conditions.
Since there is such a high demand for corrugated tin the pricing is high in Honduras. For a sheet of corrugated tin that we can buy here in the states we pay about $20-$22 a sheet. In Honduras that same sheet costs $31. Most home need about 10-15 sheets which is an astronomical sum of just under $500. So that is why this donation is $31. You can buy as many pieces of corrugated tin as you'd like and know that for every 10-15 pieces you are re-roofing or finally roofing an entire home for so many. It is a great gift this holiday season. Thank you in advance for your generous hearts!
