Handmade quilt by women in San Pedro Sula, Honduras

Description

This stunning quilt, titled Boulder Crossing, was lovingly handcrafted by Glenda Joana, one of our most inspiring Makers. Born in Santa Barbara, Honduras, on June 11, 1976, Glenda was blessed with a close-knit family who filled her life with joy. She often said she felt chosen by God to be part of such a wonderful family, and that gratitude was evident in everything she did. Her journey, however, was not without hardship. After surviving a violent robbery in which she was struck by three bullets, Glenda endured a long recovery that tested her strength but never broke her spirit.

In the years that followed, Glenda bravely fought a five-year battle with cancer. With unwavering faith, trust in God, and the help of compassionate doctors, she overcame her illness and emerged even stronger. It was during this time that Glenda discovered her gift for sewing, taught by another Maker. Creating quilts became a form of therapy and healing—a way for her to pour her pain, gratitude, and hope into something beautiful. Her involvement with One Common Threadgave her a renewed sense of purpose, offering not just an income, but also a community of women who lifted one another through love and shared resilience.

Tragically, in July 2025, Glenda passed away during surgery after a terrible motorcycle accident. Her unexpected loss has left a profound emptiness in our One Common Thread family, but her legacy continues through the art she created and the lives she touched. To honor her memory, all proceeds from the sale of Glenda’s quilts will go directly toward her son’s education, ensuring her love and dedication live on through him. Each piece she made carries her story—a story of courage, faith, and unshakable perseverance stitched into every thread.
