This beautiful Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt was made by our shy and meek Maker named Alba.
Alba is one of our incredibly hardworking Makers and is very proud of the life she and her family have built. She lives in the slums of San Pedro Sula, but through years of hard work, she has created a wonderful home for her family, even having a window air-conditioning unit, which is a significant luxury in her community. Alba has one son who is currently taking classes at the university, an accomplishment that brings her tremendous pride. What we admire most about Alba is her generosity and awareness of others.
Alba chooses not to accept additional assistance funds from One Common Thread because she recognizes how much her life has already improved and feels blessed to have a good, supportive husband by her side. Instead, she asks that those funds be used to help other Makers who are facing greater needs. Alba is a beautiful example of how opportunity, hard work, gratitude, and compassion can create lasting change.
