Handmade quilt by women in San Pedro Sula, Honduras
Description
This HUGE and beautiful red and multi colored quilt, called Together For Good, was made by our talented maker, Marta. Marta’s story is a testament to the positive influence of other women in the bordo. She learned to sew from her neighbor and has since embraced the skill, enjoying the ability to earn a living independently.
Through her work with One Common Thread, Marta has been empowered to contribute to her household income while balancing the responsibilities of motherhood. The flexibility to work from home has allowed her to be present for her children, providing for their needs while maintaining a strong connection with them. This opportunity has not only brought financial stability but has also instilled a sense of empowerment and self-sufficiency in Marta, proving how a simple skill can transform lives.
However, in September 2024, Marta experienced an unimaginable loss. Her son, Evin, tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident at just 21 years old. Evin had been about to graduate high school, an important milestone in Honduras, and Marta had hoped to help him pursue higher education at the University of Honduras in San Pedro Sula. This devastating tragedy has left a deep wound in Marta’s heart, and it will take time for her to heal. Our thoughts and prayers remain with her as she navigates this incredibly difficult time.
