Sweet Hour of Prayer, A Finished Quilt

This beautiful Outlined Tri Hexagon-patterned quilt, called Sweet Hour of Prayer, was made by our talented maker, Maria. Maria learned to sew from her neighbor, Marta, and has since embraced this skill as a way to support herself and her family. Through One Common Thread, Maria has gained the opportunity to work from home, providing a steady income while balancing her responsibilities as a mother and staying present for her children.

Sewing has empowered Maria, not only providing financial stability but also a sense of self-sufficiency. The ability to generate income from home has been transformative, enabling her to care for her family while also giving back to her community. Maria’s story highlights the profound impact of shared skills and the power of role models, like Marta, who inspire and uplift others.

Tragically, in 2024, Maria lost her 18-year-old son in a motorcycle accident. He had been an essential contributor to the household, and his death has left a deep void in her life. Despite this heartbreaking loss, Maria’s strength and resilience remain an inspiration, and One Common Thread continues to support her as she navigates this incredibly difficult time.
