Handmade quilt by women in San Pedro Sula, Honduras
Description
This quilt is called Always Welcome and is a beautiful testament to the collaboration between Damaris, Ruth, and Jessica, a mother-daughters team. Together, they embody dedication, resilience, and a shared commitment to creating a better future through sewing.
Damaris sews from home while also taking a continuing education class to improve her English. With aspirations of working in a call center, she is driven to build a better life for herself and her daughter, Aldonce. Damaris is also saving money to send Aldonce to a specialized English immersion school, demonstrating her deep commitment to giving her child the best educational opportunities possible.
Ruth, despite facing challenges with her eyesight, continues to sew, understanding its importance as a vital source of income. Her perseverance in the face of difficulty speaks to her strength, resourcefulness, and determination.
Jessica, at 17, is a high school student who attends classes on Saturdays and is on track to graduate in December 2025. In addition to her studies, she helps with the sewing, contributing her time and energy to the family effort. Her support not only strengthens their work but also highlights her dedication to both her education and her family’s success.
Together, Damaris, Ruth, and Jessica’s collective efforts are nothing short of inspiring as they navigate various responsibilities while striving for personal and financial stability. The support they receive from One Common Thread has been instrumental in helping them pursue their goals, offering them the resources to grow, thrive, and improve their circumstances.
