Handmade quilt by women in San Pedro Sula, Honduras
Description
This beautiful diamond designed scrap quilt was made by Velkis. Here are a few words from Velkis describing herself.
"I am Velkis Díaz, I am 29 years-old, I had a normal education, I was born in San Pedro Sula, I grew up with just my mother, my life was happy and it still is. I had my first boyfriend when I was 13 years old, a 6-year relationship. I had my first daughter and during pregnancy my boyfriend left me. I had my second boyfriend and we lived together and I had my second child. I have never worked so we emigrated to the country and I made the decision to marry my second boyfriend who was the father of my second child. I will be happily married for almost two years. I now have my third daughter who is almost one year-old. I am very happy because I have the family I always dreamed of."
Velkis loves the confidence that sewing has given her, as it has changed her way of living. She is grateful to have it as a way to make much needed income to help support her growing family.
