Kency is one of our youngest and most inspiring Makers, whose journey with One Common Thread began when she was just 11 years old. Growing up in the bordo, she often watched the women sewing and dreamed of one day joining them. Their creativity and determination sparked something in her—a vision of how hard work and skill could open doors to a brighter future. When Kency graduated from high school, she decided to follow in their footsteps and began sewing with our group, using her talent as an opportunity to pay for her college education and build a better life for herself.
Now a college student at San Pedro Sula College, just a short walk from the bordo, Kency studies business and tourism—a field that excites her and fills her with hope for the future. Through her beautiful sewing work, she has been able to fully fund her college classes, turning her passion into a means of empowerment and independence. Her quilts reflect the same dedication and attention to detail that she brings to her studies. Kency’s story is a powerful example of how opportunity, education, and artistry can come together to transform a young life and inspire others in her community to dream beyond their circumstances.
