Kendy has a very special smiley demeanor. She has so much hope and love for everyone around her you can hardly tell she is faced with living in such utter poverty. Kendy is the mother of 3 and was left to raise her 3 youngest siblings that are 12 and under. Gratefully she does have a very supportive husband who helps bring in a weekly income of $30 a week working construction for 10-12 hours a day.
Kendy works very hard to help provide and take care of her family. She is always washing clothes and her dream is to one day have a washing machine. However she has had to put those dreams on hold because of the dangerous condition in her home. Her greatest need is new cement. She does rent a home with cement floors but they have chipped and eroded so badly that there are gaping holes in the floor. She is often bringing dirt and rocks in from outside to fill these holes and keep her children from getting injured. As you can imagine this creates more messes when the kids spill or when she cleans.
Another dream is to have some wood so she can put up walls in her home and have a little privacy for she and her husband away from the children. Right now they have sheets hanging to divide the house into 3 tiny rooms. One for she and her husband and two for the kids. All other living goes on outside in the elements. We estimate her cement bags and wood to be about $800. We have divided this up into $50 increments. Once we have received enough to get the cement going we will start there and hopefully get walls put up in her little home.
The photo with the circles show holes that she has filled with dirt. The other photos show the curtained walls and some more of the floor corrosion.
