Handmade quilt by women in San Pedro Sula, Honduras
Description
This scrap quilt is just that, made with scraps, by our Maker Mariana. Mariana is a mother of one of our Makers that started off just by helping her daughter but has enjoyed having the extra money to help her large family of 11! Mariana is the mother of 9 with lots of grown children but still has 5 at home and also takes care of her 73 year old mother.
Mariana's living situation is the most desperate of all of our Makers. She has no cement floors, and most of her roof is falling in. She has no working fridge and sleeps in the same room and beds with 5 of her children. She also takes care of two children who live in the bordo who have no one watching out for them. She allows them to sleep in a lean to behind her home and feeds them as often as she can.
