Handmade quilt by women in San Pedro Sula, Honduras

Description

Karin's quilt is absolutely charming and delightful. The combination of White, Yellow and Blue colors in children's flannel fabric creates a whimsical and nostalgic feel. The use of 2" hexagons and English Paper Piecing (EPP) technique showcases Karin's attention to detail and her dedication to her craft.

Working with 2" hexagons requires precision and patience, as each piece is carefully sewn together to form the intricate design. Karin's skill and expertise shine through in her ability to create such a visually appealing quilt using this technique. The EPP method, which involves wrapping fabric around paper templates and hand-sewing the pieces together, adds to the quilt's uniqueness and showcases Karin's talent as a maker.

Karin's story highlights the challenging circumstances she faces as a mother of four children living in desperate poverty. Starting her journey of motherhood at a young age of 16, she has had to navigate the complexities of raising a family while dealing with financial struggles.

Sewing has become a lifeline for Karin, as it allows her to contribute to putting food on the table for her family. Despite the difficulties she encounters, she is grateful for the opportunity to sew and generate some income. Her sewing skills become a valuable resource, enabling her to provide for her children's basic needs.
