Handmade quilt by women in San Pedro Sula, Honduras
Description
This bright and festive scrap diamond quilt was made by our Maker Nohemy. Nohemy is just 28 years-old and the mother of three children, Astrid 10, Alejandro 9, and Amy 7 months. The four of them live in a tiny home with chickens roaming in and out at all hours of the day and night. Her life is very difficult and something we can't share very much of on social media but she is happy that she has the opportunity to sew with One Common Thread and earn an income to feed her children. Before she started sewing she lived on $4 a week to buy food for she and her children.
Since she has started sewing she has been able to have a cement floor put into her home, a new corrugated tin roof, a refrigerator and an oven. These are huge improvements for her life in the slums. She is a single mother doing the best she can and dreams of her children all finishing high school one day. She says if they can do that then there is no limit to the possibilities of what they can attain.
